The Door

 

I took this photo on holiday a couple of weeks ago. You might just see a door but I see questions - possibilities. Such as...

Where is the door? What building is it in? Why is it unused? What is on the other side? Is it a church, a manor house or something else? Is it derelict on the inside? Or is it a doorway to another kingdom?

 I took the photo on a sunny spring day but there are still piles of brown leaves banked up against the door - easily explained by the fact they've never been swept up. But what if the building is connected to a different time zone and is out of sync with our own?

The possibilities are endless and maybe someday I'll get a chance to explore them, but for now it'll be filed away until needed.

Cover Reveal

Today I have the honour of giving you a sneak peek at the cover for Brenda Perlin's book Home Wrecker before it's launch next week.

Brenda Perlin was born in Los Angeles, California in the Sixties. She studied acting and photography after high school. Later, her true passion was ignited when she became interested in health and fitness and became a fitness instructor. At twenty-nine she started writing Home Wrecker during the time she was getting married. She put her story down shortly after the wedding and didn’t pick it back up until she was forty-six and going through a divorce.

She now resides in Orange County, California.

Synopsis for Home Wrecker:

 

When Brooklyn meets Bo, their lives are instantly turned upside down.
Brooklyn and Bo, each unhappily married to someone else, have to decide whether to stay with their spouses or give up everything for each other. Find out what Brooklyn's husband and Bo's soon-to-be ex-wife do to break them up.

Home Wrecker is the first book in a three part series that follows the main character, Brooklyn throughout her childhood, adult life and then what seems like an “endless” journey towards redemption.

Now three quick questions 

 

What is the idea behind your books and how did you come up with it?

My stories are taken from real life. The fictional part are the names, places, and some circumstances. I don't have a great imagination but I have had enough action and suspense in my life to fill up many books.

When I first started putting together a manuscript I never would have thought I could get my work published. At the time I was getting married and feeling pressure from every angle. My writing became my savior especially when I was getting a divorce. Without it I would not have known where to turn.

 

What has been the best thing about having your book published?

  I have been able to meet so many wonderfully gifted writers. It has been great fun and a real privilege. It can be all consuming but it has allowed a whole new world to open up for me. 

 

Some authors need music, others sweets or coffee - What 3 things do you need when you are writing?

 Sometimes I need total quiet and at other times I need loud music. It changes from day to day. I always start out with a bottle of water and sucking candies. It has kind of become a habit. I like to write with my laptop on my exercise bike. Most of the time I don't even break a sweat because I am not good at multi-tasking. I need to learn to pick up the pace and type at the same time. :-)

Blog Tour

Today I have a guest post on my blog as part of her blog tour - over to you Peyton and Lynelle.

Where do I begin to say who I am ... I ask myself many times ... and the strange thing is I never get the same answer? Sometimes it’s a writer other it’s a poet... Other times it’s someone with words that’s cannot not be spoken but has to felt...

 

The poet in me has been there all my life. Growing up looking for the right person who will know how I feel.  Sometimes finding them sometimes not.

1.       Where did the idea come from for the book?

 

The Idea for my book came from it being just a collection of feelings and dreams really

 

2.       What genre does your book fall under?

 

          My book falls under romantic poetry

 

 3.   What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

 

          The search for love and needing to connect with someone who loves us for who we are

 

  4.   Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

 

          At the moment it is self-published but my main dream is to go into main stream

 

5.       How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

 

            That’s hard to answer really because I already had all the poems already done

 

 6     What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

 

           I’m not sure how to answer that one really, mine don't rhyme and are free verse

 

7.       Who or What inspired you to write this book?

 

           At the start it wasn't meant as a book just a collection of thoughts and dreams

 

.       I had no one to share things with, No one to help me with any problems

 

           So I just did the one thing I was good at. Writing. One became two and so on

 

           I felt so much more at ease in my own world.

 

8.      What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?

 

 A few things might pique there interest: one is that I am part of a unique system of other personalities.

That my host body Maurelle Lang has. She and we wrote these when she was younger. I am a real person and have my own feelings and thoughts I just help Maurelle express hers as well and help make her voice be heard.

Second we aren’t just poets we plan on writing a whole series of novels based on our first story called ‘Shadow land Desires’ once we finish it. We never even dared to dream of having a book published and now it is real. So I hope you will follow us as we keep writing with Maurelle and the others of us who help her.

She has Grayson and Rose who help with the novels and also with some of the darker poetry as well.

Kourageous Kids Storybooks is an amazing group that make books for children with cancer, making them the hero of the story. Watch the trailer to find out more.

 

 

When I heard that the owners needed more writers to write stories for the children I offered to help them out. After a few emails with Danielle she sent me the info for the child I was to write a story for.



That was when the self doubt monster dug his claws in. (For those of you who have read my blog before you'll know that he is a frequent visitor whenever I'm writing) I read the info and was close to tears. This story was SO important, and I didn't know where to begin.



Except I did - really - I just needed to step back, make a cup of tea (yes those of you who know me well - know that I'm never far from a cup of tea) and breathe. That done I printed out the child's info (her favourite things) and began to think and scribble down ideas. I also had to do some research on the things that she liked that I knew nothing about. That done I went to bed and put a documentary on the TV - something to stop me thinking, except of course that it didn't really work, but what it did do was distract me enough that a proper idea came to me for a story. I scribbled it down (in the very dingy light coming from the TV) and put it to one side until the next day.

The next day I wrote the story, hardly needing to glance at my notes because the idea was firmly stuck in my mind. After printing it out and tweaking it, I left it until my daughter came home then got her to read it. She liked it so I sent it straight to Danielle.

Because of the time difference it was only this morning when I opened my emails I found one saying that the story was going to be sent to the Mum for any fine tuning and the second one to say that the Mum loved it and the story was going to editing.

I am a very happy person right now.

Back to Work

Easter is over. I enjoyed a lovely holiday with my family.

But now it's back to work. I've beta read a book and there's a possibility that I will be involved in another awesome project, but of my own story and a charity story I've got to write, I've yet to put pen to paper. That doesn't mean that I've been idle though. Even whilst I was on holiday I scribbled a few notes - that's the beauty of being a writer - we can write in our heads whilst it seems we're aren't doing anything.

There are a couple of guest blogs lined up for next week that I have to work on so the days will soon disappear and the holiday will seem a long way away.

For now I must get back into a routine.
